PLAINVIEW – The Wausa varsity golf team teed off its 2024 spring season of invites on April 13 at the Larry Knaak Invitational in Plainview.
The Vikings only had three players available to compete at the tournament – junior Olivia Barta, sophomore Kayton Anderson and freshman Lincoln Thorell.
That means Wausa did not have an overall team total. Crofton won the 16-team event with a score of 350.
Individually for the Vikings, Thorell tied for 28th place with a 96, Anderson tied for 56th place with a 109 and Barta finished in 62nd place with a 115.
“I was really happy with the way Lincoln played on the back nine holes,” Wausa head coach Chris Haberer said.
Thorell shot a 53 on the front nine holes.
“It was a little rough,” he said. Thorell then shot a 43 on the back nine holes.
“That helped me out, cutting down 10 strokes,” he said.
Thorell was pleased with his overall performance at Plainview.
“I was pretty happy, as a freshman, scoring pretty decently,” he said.
The Vikings set to play at 9:30 a.m. April 20 at the Osmond Invitational, which will be held at Rolling Hills Country Club, and then compete at 9 a.m. April 23 at the Cedar Catholic/Hartington-Newcastle Invitational in Hartington.
“I’m really looking forward to a full team so we can actually see where we’re at against other schools,” Haberer said.
