Sheriff’s office investigates fatal crash in rural Crofton

Sheriff’s Report

CENTER – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded April 21 to a fatal one-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 54C near the Weigand recreational area, rural Crofton.

A Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by William Tejral, 61, Crofton, drove off the highway while negotiating a curve. In his efforts to return his vehicle to the road, the pickup truck started sliding sideways, rolling one and a half times.

Tejral was not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected from the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Nebraska State Patrol assisted the sheriff’s office with investigating the crash. Crofton Volunteer Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene.

The sheriff’s office received a report April 24 of a one-vehicle crash one mile east of the intersection of Highways 13 and 59 near Creighton.

A white 2009 Pontiac G6 was found in Cole Condon’s cornfield. The vehicle was owned by Rodney and Vicki Belgum, Creighton. A female juvenile was found walking along Highway 59 and was taken to Avera Creighton Hospital for her injuries. She was treated for facial fractures. Upon further investigation, the juvenile was traveling west on Highway 59 and the vehicle she was driving went off the road on the south side, proceeding through a field, across 532nd Avenue, a gravel road, and into the cornfield, hitting Condon’s irrigation electric box before coming to a stop. She was cited for no operator’s license.
