WAUSA — This section of Nebraska is being blessed with an abundance of rain this spring and at times almost an overabundance. On Wednesday evening this community had a shower of .82 of a inch, and further south a considerably larger amount. The creek three miles south of Wausa swelled to such proportion that as Mr. and Mrs. Burbridge, of Bloomfield were coming up from Norfolk the water was so high over the road that it came up within a few inches of the top of the seat in their car, which caused their car to stall. For a time they felt their lives were in peril, but fortunately some trucks came along and were able to help them thru and were towed to Wausa by Wm Kirby. Reports her this morning are to the effect that a considerably acreage is under water in the Osmond territory.

WAUSA — Work on the doctor’s office building is ahead of schedule and barring a major obstacle, the structure will be completed easily by the July 15th deadline. The roof is now completed, windows have been installed, and the lower portion of the “shake” shingles have been applied to the outside of the building. The contractors plan to have the interior finished by the first week in June so painting crews can move in. Many more loads of rich, black dirt have been hauled to the premises and are now being leveled to provide the proper lot level. There’s no doubt about it, “it will be a handsome addition to Wausa!” May 7, 1964
WAUSA — Weather disturbances with churning clouds, rain, wind and a hint of hail kept residents here nervously watching the skies or trying to separate radio reports from static-laden broadcasts. Showers with strong wind hit this area Tuesday afternoon and evening but fortunately no damage has been reported. The evening shower contained a small amount of hail. The total rainfall for Tuesday is reported to be about .95 inch. Tornadoes knifed through much of Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa, however. The winds caused damaged to Tilden, scene of a violent tornado two years ago, swept two Burlington cars off the tracks east of Hastings and damaged 25 homes and the Union Pacific depot at St. Edward. In Tilden plate glass windows were blown out and the roof ripped from the depot.
