CENTER – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 3:20 p.m., April 28, to a report of a vehicle hitting a building at the Lewis & Clark Mini Mart in Crofton.
A 2002 Pontiac Grand GTP, driven by a male juvenile, appeared to have hit the mini mart. After speaking with the juvenile driver, it appeared that there was a defect in the brakes, and he was unable to stop the vehicle.
The vehicle was towed from the scene due to the faulty brakes. There appeared to minor damage to the car and building, and there were no injuries reported.
The sheriff’s office reported a scam has been going around in which a person receives a phone call from someone stating they are from Farmers & Merchants State Bank. The caller then says there is suspicious activity with the person’s account and they need some personal information from the person they are calling.
The sheriff’s office asks people who receive these calls to contact their bank and to know who they are talking to before giv ing out any information to the caller.
People are reminded to remember to never give their account information or Social Secu rity number out over the phone.
