Sheriff’s office hosts training for area law enforcement officers

Sheriff’s Report

CENTER – From April 29-May 7, an “Initial Jail Training” class was held inside the training room of the Knox County Courthouse in Center.

Eight law enforcement and correctional officers attended the training. The officers were from the Cedar County, Dixon County and Knox County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Norfolk Police Division.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office hosted the training, which was taught by Denny Macomber, the director of jail standards for the Lincoln-based Nebraska Crime Commission.

Both textbooks and hands-on training were used to teach the officers during the course. Each officer had to pass a written test at the end of the class, and they will be recognized as certified jailers by the state of Nebraska. The sheriff’s office responded May 11 to a hitand- run at the Green River Garden Center, Verdigre.

A maroon Toyota Camry, owned by Janet Jorgensen, was struck in the rear bumper, causing damage.

The sheriff’s office is seeking any information people may have on this incident.
