CENTER – A status hearing has been set for this summer for the man who allegedly shot and killed two people at the Bloomfield bowling alley in February.
Alias V. Reed, Bloomfield, appeared in Knox County District Court on May 16 in Center for a pretrial hearing. Previously, Reed had been found by the court to not be competent to stand trial and was ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment at the Lincoln Regional Center.
According to court documents, a status hearing in his case was scheduled for July 18. He is being held in jail without bail.
Reed is charged with two counts of first-degree murder – Class 1 felonies – and two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony – Class 1C felonies.
He has been accused of murdering Curtis “Curt” Strom, 77,Bloomfield, and William Reffett, 49, Center, on the morning of Feb.20 at Curt’s Lanes and Dining, Strom’s business.
Reed’s wife, Kaylynn M. Sweazy, Bloomfield, has been charged in the case with tampering with physical evidence, a Class 2 felony. She has been accused of helping Reed dispose of a shotgun used in the killings.
Sweazy, who remains incarcerated with a bond left at 10 percent of $100,000, is due back in court on June 25 for a pretrial hearing. Her trial is set to start on Aug. 19.
