WAUSA – The start of pool season in Wausa has not gone swimmingly.
The opening day for the Wausa Municipal Swimming Pool’s 2024 season had been scheduled for May 25, in time for the three-day Memorial Day weekend, but that did not happen.
“We had a sensor go out on the heater,” said Dawn Baue, the manager of the facility. “They had to order a new one.”
She was hoping the heater’s new heat sensor would arrive this week to be installed.
“Once they get that fixed and it sits a day, then hopefully we’ll be open,” Baue said. “A lot just depends on when we get the part.”
As of the early afternoon of May 28, there was no set opening day yet for the swimming pool, though she was wanting the facility to be open by May 31 or June 1 if possible.
“That’s what we’re shooting for, as long as the part comes,” Baue said. “It’s just a little piece, but if we don’t have it, the heater doesn’t work.”
She noted the swimming pool water has been chilly lately due to mostly cool spring weather.
“Unless Mother Nature can warm it to 70 degrees before then, then we’d open, but I highly doubt it,” Baue said. The regular open hours for the facility have been set for 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday-Friday – it will be closed 5-6 p.m. for a supper break – and 1-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Adult-only swimming will be held daily from 12:30-1 p.m. before the swimming pool opens, as well as from 5-5:45 p.m. Monday-Friday. Group swimming lessons have been scheduled for June 10-14 each morning, thanks again to a grant from the Wausa Community Foundation Fund. All Wausa children again will receive free group swimming lessons.
Private swimming lessons also will be available in June and July. People are encouraged to follow the swimming pool’s Facebook page for updates.
