WAUSA — Eleven students from Knox County are registered for the current session of summer school at the University of Nebraska. The students from Wausa this summer are: Harry S. Hegstrom, studying the degree of master of arts; and Lloyd B. Sellin, enrolled as a junior in arts and sciences.

WAUSA — Wausa finished the first half of the N.E. Nebraska League season Sunday by defeating the Crofton ball club on the Wausa diamond, by a score of 11 to 6. It looked like the Wausa club had recovered from the slump they were in for a time for they played a fine game, having only two errors against them. Wausa finished the half with nine games won and two lost and if they play ball the rest of the season they should have a fine all-season average.

WAUSA — After 49 years of ownership A. Anderson sold the Wausa Gazette to H. V. Anderson of Correctionville, Iowa.
VaNoy Westadt was hurt in a sickle mower accident that caused damage to tendons in his heel.
E. L. Swanson, meat cutter, formerly in Wausa, has been advanced to a position in Sioux City.
Four month-old John A. was adopted by the Floyd Heckathorns and arrived in their home July 2.
The Pinochle club held a picnic in the park for members, their families, and later were guests in the Milton Berg home for ice cream and cake.
The local firemen went on a wild chase to a grass fire that had been turned in by neighbors of Warren Pearson as he was burning the field off. He had it all under control.
The Chicago Railroad Co. is offering special tours to the fair in Chicago for 2, 3, or 4 day vacation tours.

WAUSA — The Wausa Swedes split a pair of games this past week when they beat Hartington 11 to 4 and dropped a 2-1 game to Winside. In the Sunday night game played at Hartington, the Swedes hammered out 10 hits to Hartington’s 7. Leading hitters for Wausa were Erickson and Carlson, who each had a single and triple and Oswald and D. Goeden, who each had a double and a single. D. Goeden and Oswald comprised the Wausa battery.

WAUSA — The Wausa Schools have been notified by the Eastman School of Music at Rochester, New York that Richard Thorell has been awarded one of the five Rochester National Scholarships awarded to members of the class entering the Eastman School of Music in 1959. It is definitely an honor to be awarded one of these scholarships since there are only five given and they go only to outstanding students with excellent qualifications.

WAUSA — Firemen were called out a couple times, first to the DeVerne Krueger farm, where a cold bolt of lightning hit a barn, no damage and while the equipment was still out ,they were called to the Leroy Benson farm where a large stack of baled hay was burning-loss 750 to 800 bales.

WAUSA — Mrs. Rueben Anderson and her family and their mates and families had a fish fry at Weigand Basin last week.

WAUSA — The Wausa Women’s Club recently welcomed Vern and Kim Randall and their newborn son, Nicholas Vernon, to the community. The family lives on the farm of Mrs. Randall’s parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Fred Whaley, four and three quarters miles east and a half mile south of Wausa. They moved here from North Platte.

WAUSA — Steve Doerr of Wausa is a winner of the 1984 Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award for rescuing Royal Swanson from his burning car that was jammed by a snow bank last Dec. 20. The award was announced by Ak-Sar-Ben Ambassador Dr. R.L. Tollefson Saturday night, at the Pork Chop Barbecue.
