CENTER – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle crash July 24, by the intersection of 536th Avenue and Highway 59, about five miles east of Creighton.
Brian Zimmerer, Creighton, the owner and operator of a 1991 International semi truck pulling a trailer, was driving west on Highway 59. Matthew Cone, Verdigre, the owner and operator of a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck, and his passenger, Rebecca Houtby, also were traveling west on Highway 59.
Zimmerer’s vehicle was following someone pulling a trailer full of bales traveling at about 25 miles per hour. Cone’s pickup came up behind Zimmerer’s vehicle and collided with Zimmerer’s trailer. Cone’s pickup entered the north ditch and struck a utility pole.
The Creighton Volunteer Fire Department, the Creighton Ambulance Service and the Creighton Police Department all responded the scene.
Zimmerer was treated at the scene and released. Cone was transported to the Creighton Municipal Airport and then flown to Sioux City, Iowa, for treatment, and Houtby was taken to Avera Creighton Hospital for treatment.
Zimmerer’s vehicle received minimal damage. Cone’s pickup was totaled. Seat belt use by those involved in the crash was unknown, but airbags did deploy.
Jack Janak, Verdigre, reported July 17 to the sheriff’s office that on May 30, someone had broken two of his corner posts and two gates on 882nd Road west of Verdigre. Janak also stated someone had entered his cabin in the same location, but nothing was damaged or missing.
