“The Moorings of Mackerel Sky” is by MZ. Mackerel Sky, Maine, became a settlement after a ship captain fell in love with NimuĂ«, a mermaid. Three hundred years later, the legend influences the town. Myra Kelley knows all about Leo Beale and his mother. Derrick Stowe is the town’s star pitcher, but he’s actually a different person than everyone expects. Manon Perle creates quilts of the Mackerel Sky legend. This book is in regular print.

“Deus X” is an August Snow novel by Stephen Mack Jones. Father Michael Grabowski suddenly retires. August Snow questions the circumstances of the priest’s retirement. A mysterious priest and former combat veteran appears at the diocese. He and his armored guard get closer to Father Grabowski and August wants to know why. When a terrible crime is committed in the name of faith, August wants to know who is trying to bury the truth. This book is in regular print.

“Sunset, Water City” is by Chris McKinney. In 2150, almost all of the human population was possessed by Akira Kimura. Ten years later, a nameless antihero and his daughter, Ascalon, oppose Akira and the vision of a world Akira has created. Ascalon’s father dies, and she must find a way to save what’s left of the world. This book is in regular print.

“Hercule Poirot’s Silent Night” is by Sophie Hannah. In December 1931, Hercule Poirot and Inspector Edward Catchpool investigate the murder of a man at a hospital. When a friend’s husband is to enter the same hospital, his wife insists he will be the next victim, but won’t explain why. Poirot has less than a week to find the killer, who is intent on stopping Poirot. This book is in regular print.

“The Death of Us” is by Lori Rader-Day. Liss Kehoe opened the door to find Ashley Hay, who handed over her newborn baby Callan. Then Ashley disappeared. Liss raised Callan as her own. Years later, Ashley’s body was found in a quarry pond. Liss wants to protect her son. She knows someone knows the truth, but wants to keep the facts a secret. Can she protect her family and her own secrets? This book is in regular print. “In the Pines: A Lynching, A Lie, A Reckoning” is by Grace Elizabeth Hale. Grace learned that her grandfather prevented the lynching of a Black man in 1947. The man purportedly died in an escape attempt the next day. Grace discovers the truth about the incident when she researches the case. This nonfiction book is in regular print.

“The Last Outlaws: The Desperate Final Days of the Dalton Gang” is by Tom Clavin. This is the story of the Dalton Gang. Three brothers and other accomplices first stole horses and then robbed banks and trains. In October 1892, the Dalton Gang attempted robbing two banks simultaneously in Coffeyville, Kan. Citizens armed themselves with weapons and the gunfight resulted in the death of four Dalton Gang members. This nonfiction book is in regular print.
