1964: Johnson named to Top Twenty Team

April. 12, 1919

WAUSA — A little 2-year old son of F. T. Olson, the tinner, was run over by a Ford down on the business street Saturday afternoon. The little fellow was knocked down but luckily fell between the wheel and thus escaped without any serious injuries, though he might just as easily have been killed.

Those who witnessed the accident charge it to carelessness on the part of the driver, who was swinging around the corner at pretty good speed and did not even know that he ran over the child until his attention was called to it by some people riding in the back seat.

While we all rejoice that the accident had no more serious consequences, it should nonetheless be permitted to serve as a warning. People who drive cars through town should use common sense enough not to drive faster than that they have the machine under perfect control at all times and not permit themselves to sit and gawk around not looking to see where they drive nor what is in the way. We realize that no one in this community would deliberately hurt a child, but it is not enough to mean no harm. Care must be taken to prevent accidents. After the accident occurs it is well enough to be sorry about it, but that will not undo the harm that has been done and which might have been avoided with a little more care.

WAUSA — Construction of the new doctor’s building in Wausa was started last weekend as bulldozers went to work leveling the ground and removing dirt for the structure’s foundation. Plans indicate that the building will be of frame construction, and, as preferred by the doctor, of bungalow type. It will be located across the street west of the fire hall. The Doctor for Wausa committee, in a meeting held last Thursday night, decided to have the work done by local builders, Arnold Anderson and Don Hult. The building must be completed before July 15th.

WAUSA — The annual village election was a very quiet affair with only about 170 voters making the trip to the polls. It was a beautiful day, but citizens just seemed indifferent about exercising the democratic privilege. In the balloting for village trustees, all present members of the board were retained, however, only two votes separated two of the candidates. Milton Larson and Stanley Carlson were the closest contenders, with Mayor Johnson and Creutz holding safe margins.

The old vehicle will be traded in, the police equipment inside will be taken out and put into the new vehicle. After Hoppe Motors adds an extra battery and alternator, the total will be around $15,000.
