“The Last Ballad” is by Wiley Cash. In 1929, Ella May Wiggins walks to her job at American Mill No. 2 in North Carolina. It’s a dirty job and she doesn’t earn much, but she has children to think of. Unions try to organize and Ella May decides to join the movement. All workers are threatened if they join. Ella May must think of her hungry children as she joins.
