WAUSA — Well, that was about the shortest spring on record - it’s genuine summer now! After a wintry March, and one week of blustery spring, we find ourselves right in the midst of bright summery days which has brought temperatures reaching up to 88 degrees Wednesday. It doesn’t seem real, but that’s what the thermometer on the bank corner says, and Barney vows that it’s right. Because it is in the direct rays of the sun, it may read a little higher than suppose to, but even if we knock off two or three degrees, it is still welcome warmth.

WAUSA — Qualified voters of the Wausa School District will go to the polls next Tuesday, April 14, to cast their approval or disapproval of issuing bonds for the construction of an addition to the existing high school building. The special election will be held at the community auditorium between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. The bond issue in the amount of $163,000 would finance construction of the new unit, to be attached to the existing building to the north and west. Davis & Wilson, an architectural firm, has drawn the plans and specifications for the proposed addition. The bond issue of $163,000 to finance the new addition would cost district property owners 1 1/2 mills on a 19 year program. Thus, you as a property owner, will pay about $1.50 per $1000 of assessed valuation you now pay on, which is 35 percent of actual valuation of property in Nebraska. District 76-R patrons are currently paying 33.7 mills, which is fifth lowest of the seven county schools.
