Legion Auxiliary announces essay winners
OSMOND – The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 326 met Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. starting with Americanism essay contest winners announced and prizes given. The winners were: Grades 9-12 - first place, Ava Reikofski; seventh and eighth grades - first place, Claire Steinkraus, second place, Sunny Geneski; fifth and sixth grade - first place, Klaire Stech, second place, Kendra Gardner; third and fourth grade - first place, Clara Steffen, second place, Bennett Aschoff.

Cowboy Trail near Norfolk closing for repairs until June
Starting April 30, the Cowboy Trail is closed temporarily for repairs a halfmile west of the South 45th Street/ Railroad Road trail parking lot, about 3.75 miles west of the Ta-Ha-Zouka Park trailhead in Norfolk.

2023 poultry numbers are up, value is down
LINCOLN – The value of egg production in Nebraska during 2023 was $310 million, down from $324 million in 2022, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

15 seniors to graduate from OHS on Saturday
OSMOND – High school careers will come to a close for 15 Osmond High School seniors on Saturday, May 4. Commencement ceremonies will take place in the OHS gym at 2 p.m.

Pierce County Visitors Bureau awards grants
PIERCE – The Pierce County Visitors Bureau meeting on Thursday, April 4, was called to order by Chairman Robert Wehrer at 3 p.m. at the Pierce County Courthouse. Roll call was taken with members Kelly Hodson, Robert Wehrer, and Jean Bierschenk present. Julie Newman and Rick Higgins were absent. Representatives from the Pierce Historical Society, Pierce Threshing Bee and Norfolk Area Visitor’s Bureau were also in attendance.

Internship grant awarded to Osmond Public Library
The Nebraska Library Commission recently awarded Nebraska Library Internship Grants totaling $21,000 to 18 Nebraska public libraries. These internship grants will support public library interns who will contribute to the scope and value of the diverse programs and activities in Nebraska’s public libraries.

Osmond Republican receives Press Association award
LINCOLN – Osmond Republican Editor Regina Lorenz was honored Saturday, April 27, for feature stories she wrote about Osmond’s veterans. Lorenz received a second-place award for a Division A feature series in the 2024 Better Newspaper Competition.

FBLA members qualify for national competition in Florida
KEARNEY – Osmond FBLA members competed at the Nebraska State Leadership Conference in Kearney April 11-13, with several qualifying for nationals. Those qualifying for nationals will be competing in Orlando, FL, this summer.
