FIRST SNOW
FIRST SNOW - Osmond received its first snow of the 2024-25 winter season beginning Friday, November 29. Some light flakes fell throughout the day, although the forecast only called for a "chance" of snow in the morning. The snow continued through Saturday, dropping a couple inches of the white stuff, with frigid temperatures in the single digits accompanying the moisture. A little more also fell on Monday, when cleanup on State Street took care of the small windrow. Warmer temperatures began on Tuesday with a high of 39 degrees predicted. Except for another day in the 20s on Thursday, the rest of the week looks nicer, with temperatures in the 40s and even into the 50s during the weekend. 12/03/2024 06:04 PM

Filling the pantry. . .
Filling the pantry. . .
Last Thursday, the Osmond Community Food Pantry received nearly 1,300 non-perishable food items from St. Mary’s Catholic School students and Immanuel Lutheran Church. Along with recent donations from Trinity Lutheran Church in Foster and several local community members, the pantry is stocked very well for the holidays and the coming year. Thrivent also provided a cash grant to the pantry matching Immanuel’s generous food donations, so it can provide perishable items for local residents’ holiday meals. They just need to ask about this help when they go to visit. The pantry is open most Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and by calling Charlotte Kiichler at (402) 748-3474, Luella Hodson at (402) 750-4156, or Barb Reineke at (402) 748-3612. Residents in need are asked to please take advantage of this service the community is providing. The pantry also offers many other community services. Considerations for Cowherd Expansion
Considerations for Cowherd Expansion
The USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service releases their detailed cattle inventory in January every year. The last peak in herd inventory was 2019 at 31.6 million cows. Last year’s report was down 11% from that at 28.2 million. Extension Livestock Educators Connor Biehler and Alfredo DiCostanzo shared their thoughts on what a smaller herd size may mean for the upcoming numbers report in the recent UNL BeefWatch newsletter. 11/27/2024 12:00 AM

Her granddaughter, Addison, age 17, is the daughter of Rich and Jen Hodson of Plainview. ––––– This past weekend I had the privilege of joining my granddaughter, Addison Hodson, on her deer hunt. Her dad took her on Saturday morning but had other commitments the rest of the weekend. So Rich asked Kelly, her granddad, if he would want to take her hunting.
