LINCOLN – All layers in Nebraska during August 2024 totaled 8.63 million, up from 7.89 million the previous year, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

WAUSA – On Friday, Sept. 20, the Wausa-Osmond Vikings opened district play in Wausa against the Boyd County Spartans. Both teams entered the match-up with 2 wins and 1 loss on the season.

USDA releases crop production report
LINCOLN – Based on Sept. 1 conditions, Nebraska’s 2024 corn crop is forecast at 1.89 billion bushels, up 9% from last year’s production, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This would be a new record high production if realized. Area harvested for grain, at 9.70 million acres, is up 2% from a year ago. Average yield is forecast at 195 bushels per acre, up 13 bushels from last year. This would be a new record high yield if realized.

Tigers fifth at Neligh-Oakdale invitational
NELIGH – On Monday, Sept. 16, Osmond traveled to the Antelope Country Club for the Neligh-Oakdale cross country invite. Fourteen teams took part in the run over a new course set-up. Creighton won the boys' race by a point over Boyd County and the North Central girls outdistanced Elkhorn Valley by 8 points.

Lady Tigers disappointed in week's games
OSMOND – The Osmond Lady Tigers had a busy week, with a game at Homer on Tuesday, and games against Winside and Newman Grove-St. Edward at home on Thursday. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers fell in all three matches.

(Pierce County Weed Control) Fall is an excellent time to control noxious weeds. Nebraska’s noxious are translocating nutrients to their root systems during the cool autumn months to survive the winter and get a good start next year. These weeds include Canada thistle, musk thistle, plumeless thistle, leafy spurge, spotted knapweed, diffuse knapweed, purple loosestrife, saltcedar, Japanese knotweed, giant knotweed, phragmites and sericea lespedeza.
