Supt. Bremer, Principal Polt attend Nebraska Educator Retreat
(By Skip Bremer, Osmond Community School Superintendent) LINCOLN – The Nebraska Army National Guard held a Nebraska Educator Retreat on Wednesday, July 31. This educator event began at the Lin- coln Air Base and included flying on a Chinook UH-47 to Greenlief Training Site in Hastings for marksmanship instruction and shooting with the M17 9 mm pistol, a flight to Seward and the National Guard Museum, and finished with a bus ride back to Lincoln due to the storms.

Caydence Krienert, Anna Kahny write about trip to Uganda
OSMOND – Osmond graduates Caydence Krienert and Anna Kahny recently traveled to Uganda on a mission trip with the organization Love Africa Mission. The two were there from June 3 to June 17, helping people in the Kyangwali Refugee Camp.

Schools to begin classes next week
OSMOND – Students who attend classes at Osmond’s schools will return to the routine next week. Thursday, Aug. 15, marks the beginning of the 2024-25 school term.

Pierce County Fair competition winners are announced
PIERCE – A number of competitions were held during the Pierce County Fair, which took place July 24-28. They included team roping, pedal pull, demolition derby, donkey polo, Double S Extreme bull riding and bull fighting. The winners are listed here.

Nebraska crop progress, condition reported
LINCOLN – For the week ending Aug. 4, 2024, there were 6.7 days suit- able for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 37% short, 47% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 10% very short, 33% short, 53% adequate, and 4% surplus.

Nebraska cattle on feed up 3%
LINCOLN – Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.39 million cattle on feed on July 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was up 3% from last year.

The Nebraska Environmental Trust (NET) grant cycle for funding year 2025 opened for applications on Monday, July 15. Applications will be accepted until Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 11:59 p.m.
