Biosecurity measures help protect livestock during fairs, shows, rodeos
LINCOLN – County fairs, livestock competitions, and rodeos, let people see, experience, and celebrate agriculture on a different level. Since many agricultural events take place during the summer, now is the perfect time for the Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA) to remind livestock owners to protect their animals and to keep them healthy, especially livestock participating in shows and competitions.

Plainview man arrested for theft by deception
PLAINVIEW – On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at approximately 9:15 a.m., the Pierce County Sheriff’s Of- fice arrested Travis R. Hofmann, 36 years of age, of rural Plainview, for theft by deception, a $5,000+ Class IIA felony.

Mike Grein named teacher of the year in Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS – Mike Grein, a 1999 graduate of Osmond High School, was honored recently by being named Teacher of the Year at Lutheran High School of Indianapolis (LHSI). The award was presented by Head Master Michael Brandt. This award was voted on by the students, faculty and parents of LHSI.

More answers given on flood risk reduction plan
OSMOND - At the recent meeting in Osmond, sponsored by the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District (LENRD), members of JEO Consulting Group were available to answer questions about the options for a flood risk reduction plan. One of those members was Ann Nissen, who sent the following responses to some of the questions about the identified alternatives presented at the meeting. ----- The project is funded through a federal grant from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This means we must follow NRCS rules and guidelines when evaluating and selecting project alternatives.

LINCOLN – For the week end ing July 7, 2024, there were 4.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 1% very short, 18% short, 65% adequate, and 16% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 3% very short, 18% short, 66% adequate, and 13% surplus.
