Nebraska hog inventory down 4%
LINCOLN – Nebraska inventory of all hogs and pigs on Sept. 1, 2024, was 3.65 million head, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This was down 4% from September 1, 2023, but unchanged from June 1, 2024. reeding hog inventory, at 420,000 head, was up 2% from Sept. 1, 2023, and up 8% from last quarter. Market hog inventory, at 3.23 million head, was down 5% from last year, and down 1% from last quarter.

Young readers invited to write to favorite authors
Young readers in grades 4-12 are invited to write a personal letter to an author for the Nebraska Letters about Literature (LAL) contest, a state reading and writing promotion program. The letter can be to any author (living or dead) from any genre: fiction or nonfiction, contemporary or classic - explaining how that author’s work changed the student’s view of the world.
